Mentally ill woman attempts suicide

LAHORE:Lahore General Hospital, Medical Superintendent, Dr Faryad Hussain, has constituted an eight-member medical boardunder the supervision of Prof Dr Jodat Saleem to ensure comprehensive treatment of a patient, Ayesha Nawaz, who attempted suicide by jumping off the hospital building on Tuesday.

According to details, 25-yearold Ayesha Nawaz, a resident of Abbottabad and a diagnosed mental health patient, was brought to the LGH Emergency Department on Tuesday by her brother, Asad Nawaz, after consuming an excessive quantity of sleeping pills in the Kot Lakhpat area. She was provided immediate medical assistance and later shifted to the ward.

Considering the nature of the incident, police authorities were also informed promptly. Following the incident, the hospital staff and health professionals responded immediately and shifted the patient to the Emergency Ward in a critical condition. According to medical experts, after medical examination, severe fractures to the spinal vertebrae, leg and ankle, while internal bleeding in the abdominal region further aggravated her condition, which is stated to be critical.

Dr Faryad Hussain stated that doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the LGH are working with full professional commitment and dedication to save the patient’s life. He said that under the supervision of the medical board, all available modern medical facilities are being used. He informed that four units of blood were arranged, all necessary diagnostic tests were completed and a multidisciplinary team was ensuring continuous monitoring of the patient to avoid any lapse in treatment. Medical experts have also appealed to the public to ensure proper care and supervision of individuals suffering from mental health disorders and to avoid leaving them unattended, in order to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
