PESHAWAR: A team of veterinary doctors on Tuesday visited Kheshgi village in Nowshera where they took samples of cows and buffaloes suffering from a mysterious disease that killed many animals recently.
The vets met the cattle owners and discussed the matter. The visit was undertaken in the wake of a report published in The News a few days back.
Secretary Livestock Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zariful Mani constituted an investigative team and directed them to visit Kheshgi village in Nowshera where the local dairy farmers and cattle owners had complained about the outbreak of a mysterious disease among their cattle.
The team led by Dr Akhtar-ul-Islam, District Director Livestock Nowshera, including Dr Nauman Fazal, I/C MVC Nowshera, and the Epidemiology Team from DG L&DD (Ext) Office comprising Dr Midrarullah Deputy Director and Dr Waqas Alam, VO(H).
The team investigated the causes of deaths of several animals. They visited various dairy farms and talked to local farmers to collect information on animal health, feeding practices, and potential exposure to diseases.
They collected blood samples from several animals for further analysis.The investigation report will be compiled and shared with relevant stakeholdersThe vets guided the farmers on feeding habits, practices and other preventive measures to avoid future losses.
Dr Akhtar assured the farmers that follow-up visits would be undertaken based on the investigation findings to improve livestock health and reduce mortality rates.It is worth mentioning here that the Livestock Department Nowshera organized a free camp at the Hujra of Pir Nasrullah Khan where the farmers and cattle owners informed them about the problems and concerns related to their animals, particularly cows and buffalos in the area.
