ISLAMABAD: Banking Court Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar gave the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) two days to complete the challan in the PTI foreign funding case, here on Friday.
Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar inquired from special prosecutor as to why the challan has remained inconclusive, Prosecutor Wasiq Malik responded that a letter was written to foreign country to seek its opinion. Saying that the issue has been pending since 2022, and you have shown no interest, Judge Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar, warned of issuing a show cause notice to the investigator and of summoning the Director-General of the FIA on the next date. At this, special prosecutor requested the court to allow a week to 10 days to complete the challan. He requested to hold off on issuing the show cause notice and summoning the DG for now. The banking court judge replied that he would consider the request and directed him to show performance and complete the process in two days. Later the hearing of the PTI foreign funding case was adjourned until February 4.
Meanwhile, further details of the foreign funding case have also come to the fore. According to sources, the six individuals named by the FIA include the founder of PTI, Tariq Shafi, Hamid Zaman, and others. The accused are alleged to have been involved in illegal funding amounting to $2.1 million.
The sum of $2.1 million was reportedly sent to PTI by a company named Vote on Cricket Limited. According to records submitted by PTI to the Election Commission, the company is owned by Arif Naqvi. PTI’s records indicate that the company is registered in the Cayman Islands, Ireland. However, according to the challan, the company is fake and not registered anywhere.
The FIA has submitted separate challans of three declared accused separately including Arif Naqvi, Tariq Rahim Sheikh, and others. The accused are alleged to have illegally solicited funds and altered official records.
