KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) incarcerated leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi appears in an email exchange between Jeffrey Epstein and former JP Morgan executive Jes Staley that promised Epstein “private time” with a string of foreign dignitaries, according to correspondence reviewed by The News.

One email between Epstein and Staley, dated October 1, 2010, lists senior officials from a range of countries, including HE Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi under Pakistan. Qureshi was foreign minister at the time under the PPP’s Yousuf Raza Gilani administration.

The message does not show that Qureshi met Epstein, visited his properties or had any dealings with him, and there is no indication that he was aware of his inclusion on the list. In his reply to Epstein, Staley said, “Thats (sic) amazing”.

It is also unclear who compiled the names or for what purpose beyond the suggestion that Epstein could have “private time” with those listed.

The US Justice Department on Friday released a further three million pages of documents linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Trump administration said this would be the final tranche of material. The latest release sheds new light on Epstein’s ties to wealthy and influential figures, including Hollywood personalities, technology billionaires and public officials.

Alongside Qureshi, the email names officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Morocco, Nigeria, Portugal, Qatar, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates, suggesting the list was part of a broader roster of foreign officials rather than Pakistan-focused outreach.

Pakistan and Pakistani citizens appear only sparingly in the documents, with most references being brief and incidental. In one of the emails sent in 2013, a UN official mentioned Imran Khan as ‘London society lion’ and recommended to Epstein that the polio eradication programme could be carried out in Pakistan through Khan.

In one of the emails sent in 2017, Epstein expressed interest in purchasing a Pakistani outfit with his assistant asking for the details to purchase five sets. The email was sent to Zubair Khan, CEO of the cybersecurity firm Tranchulas.
