UNFPA chief highlights youth’s role in development

Islamabad:United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Representative Dr. Luay Shabaneh underscored the role of youth and academic institutions in addressing Pakistan’s population and development challenges.

During a visit to the Khaldunia Institute of Technology and Applied Sciences City Campus, Dr. Shabaneh highlighted the importance of social responsibility, informed citizenship and partnerships between educational institutions and international organisations to promote long-term development goals.

He commended Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin, chairperson of the Nizam Foundation, for his sustained commitment to advancing education and praised KITAAS for its mission to promote academic excellence and community-focused learning.

Accompanied by his team, Dr. Shabaneh was received by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin, chairperson of the Nizam Foundation, along with senior faculty and administrators. Prof. Nizamuddin presented an overview of the Foundation’s academic vision and key initiatives, including the ongoing KITAAS project, the forthcoming degree-awarding KITAAS University and the proposed Center of Excellence in Population, Education and Development Studies.

Dr. Shabaneh toured the institute’s laboratories and facilities before addressing faculty members and administrative staff. He later held an interactive session with students, encouraging dialogue on population dynamics, sustainable development and the responsibility of young people in shaping a more equitable future.
