NOWSHERA: A book on Nowshera’s history unveiled at a ceremony held at the Government Higher Secondary School, Nowshera Cantt, on Saturday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Education Khalid Khan, who was the chief guest, formally unveiled the book authored by Dr Muhammad Tariq Azad. The event was attended by a large number of religious, political, and literary figures, poets, teachers and students.
Speakers paid tribute to Dr Muhammad Tariq Azad for writing what they termed the first comprehensive and research-based book on the history of Nowshera.
They said that the publication was a valuable effort to acquaint the new generation with the district’s political, religious, literary traditions, civilisation and culture.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest termed the preservation of Nowshera’s history in book form as a commendable step that would open new avenues for research and learning.
He said efforts would be made to include the book in the curriculum of all government schools across the province for classes 9, 10, and second year while its introduction at the primary level would also be considered.
He added that the book would prove beneficial for students in understanding the history of Nowshera and the contributions of local heroes.
Speaking on the occasion, author Dr Azad said the purpose of writing the book was to ensure that the younger generation remained aware of its past before moving forward in any field. He stressed that progress becomes meaningful when people learn from their history.
He noted that the
book contained detailed coverage of Nowshera’s political, social, literary, and cultural traditions, festivals, national harmony, and the role of heroes from the district in the creation of Pakistan.
Among other speakers were Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman Dr Akmal, Director Peshawar Region Dr Ghazala Ali Khan, Pakistani Languages Allama Iqbal Open University Chairman Dr Abdullah Jan Abid, District Education Officer (DEO) Abdur Rahman, Principal Ishtiaq Paracha and ASDEO Iftikhar Paracha.
