ISLAMABAD: A special judge central court has cancelled the bail of Najaf Hameed, brother of former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, in a land fraud case involving alleged misuse of official position and fraudulent property transfer.

In a written order issued by Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, the court accepted the prosecution’s plea for cancellation of bail, ruling that extraordinary relief such as bail could not be granted merely on the basis of a statement or a private agreement.

According to the prosecution, Najaf Hameed is accused of registering a fake property registry and deed. Instead of transferring one-kanal land to the complainant, he allegedly fraudulently transferred only 10 marlas. The court noted that the accused is also alleged to have misused his official position for personal gain.

The judge observed that the arrest of the accused is necessary to uncover the true facts of the case and to ensure a fair and effective investigation. The prosecution argued that the seriousness of the allegations required custodial interrogation.

The court further noted that an inquiry under the Money Laundering Act is also underway against Najaf Hameed, adding to the gravity of the charges. It ruled that misuse of official authority is a serious offence that cannot be overlooked.

Consequently, the court approved the prosecution’s request and ordered for cancellation of Najaf Hameed’s bail.
