MINGORA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially bifurcated Swat district into two separate districts - Bar Swat and Swat - with immediate effect.
A notification issued by the Board of Revenue on Tuesday said the decision was taken in compliance with the provincial cabinet’s approval during its 43rd meeting held on December 19, 2025, under Sections 5 and 6 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Land Revenue Act, 1967.
Under the notification, District Bar Swat will have its headquarters at Matta and will comprise the tehsils of Matta, Bahrain and Khwazakhela.Meanwhile, Swat district will have its headquarters at Gulkada (Babuzai tehsil) and will include the tehsils of Babuzai, Kabal, Charbagh and Barikot.
The government stated that the bifurcation has been carried out in the public interest to improve administrative efficiency and service delivery.With the creation of Bar Swat as a new district, the total number of districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased to 37.
