HANGU: Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak on Tuesday visited District Prison, Hangu, to review overall administration, inmate facilities and security arrangements.
During the visit, the IG Prisons, accompanied by Superintendent Tahir Jamal and Deputy Superintendent Mamoon Khan, met inmates and listened to their concerns. Prisoners highlighted issues related to basic facilities, electricity, clean drinking water and other matters. The IG issued on-the-spot directives to the relevant officials.
Speaking to reporters, Rehan Gul Khattak said the chief minister and provincial government had a clear vision to introduce effective reforms in the prison system and ensure humane facilities for inmates. He said all prisons across the province were being shifted to solar energy in phases to address the energy crisis.
He added that a water filtration plant would be installed at District Jail Hangu to ensure the supply of clean and quality drinking water, while other issues facing the jail would also be resolved on a priority basis. Reiterating the department’s vision, “Hate the crime, not the criminal”, the IG said efforts were being made to provide a better environment and facilities for both inmates and jail staff.The IG expressed satisfaction over the food, cleanliness and other facilities being provided to prisoners.
