HARIPUR: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid on Tuesday said the digital accounts of 10 million women beneficiaries were being created to help them receive money through mobile phones.
Addressing the Sinf-e-Ahan Conference at the Haripur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, she said this would help ensure more transparency in the BISP.“One crore families are benefiting from the Benazir Income Support Program across the country and disbursement of financial support to registered women beneficiaries would prove to be an important milestone,” she said.
Talking about the steps being taken to empower women economically, Rubina Khalid said that besides BISP, the Benazir Hunar Mand Programme had been launched, which was a gift for skilled women as they were an invaluable asset to the country and would contribute to economic development.
Listing the ongoing initiatives that were being taken under the BISP, she said that educational scholarships, and women development were part of the efforts to empower the women in line with the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
She claimed that the Benazir Income Support Programme gave identity to women and brought them to the mainstream.She assured the audience that the steps would be taken to solve women’s problems to help them contribute their energies in the development of the country.
She announced the registration of women for BISP and women related development programmes from the chamber’s platform with the help of Nadra.Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Malik Umair Khalid, Syed Safdar Zaman Shah, Malik Muhammad Nazir, Shahbaz Mahmood, Usman Waheed and Syed Ahmed Jan Sikandar spoke at the event.
