PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Saturday said that the Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway would be constructed through provincial resources and directed the relevant departments to complete all technical, administrative and financial requirements for the project by February 10.

Chairing an important meeting on signature road sector projects at the Chief Minister’s House, he also directed that the motorway be developed as a green motorway in line with modern standards to ensure environmental protection.

It was further decided that civil works on Swat Expressway Phase-2 would commence from January 31.

The meeting reviewed in detail the progress of ongoing and proposed mega projects in the province and discussed the future course of action, said an official communique.

Matters related to the Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, Dir Motorway, and Swat Expressway Phase-2 were discussed in detail.

The CM said that the construction of motorways was among the signature projects of the provincial government and that progress on these projects must be ensured in accordance with the stipulated timelines.

He emphasised that there was no room for delay in the implementation of these projects and that he would personally monitor their progress.

The CM said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would provide all necessary resources on a priority basis for public welfare projects and that legislation would be enacted to safeguard the construction and completion of mega projects.

He stressed that regardless of which political party is in government, public interest projects should be completed without delay. He said that the provincial government is laying down a comprehensive network of roads and motorways to promote business, employment, and trade in the province.

The construction of new motorways would strengthen the local economy, create new employment opportunities and boost overall development activities.
