Woman awarded life sentence for kidnapping Norwegian child

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday sentenced accused Shaista to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs500,000 after she was found guilty in the case of kidnapping a Norwegian child from a local shopping mall, while co-accused Haroon Khan was acquitted in the case due to lack of evidence.

The 14-page decision issued by the court said that according to prosecutor Rana Naveed, the plaintiff had come to Pakistan from Norway along with her family. According to CCTV footage, the child Azlan was seen leaving with two women. Later, accused Shaista was arrested from Mehrabadi along with three-year-old child Azlan. The accused woman, Shaista’s identification was confirmed in the CCTV footage through Nadra data.

According to the court’s decision, there is no evidence of any bad relationship between the plaintiff and the accused in the past and the accused levelled allegation against the plaintiff of a quarrel but could not prove it. The kidnapping case was confirmed through the CCTV footage. It is pertinent to mention that a case was registered against the accused in May 2025 at Margalla Police Station under the kidnapping section.
