CHARSADDA: The 10th anniversary of the martyrs of the Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, (BKUC) was observed on Tuesday.
BKUC Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khan Alam paid rich tribute to the martyrs and placed floral wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered fateha. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Frontier Corps (FC) presented a salute at the memorial.
The VC, faculty members, university employees and students also arranged Quran Khwani for the eternal peace of the departed souls.Addressing the commemorative ceremony, VC Khan Alam said that the sacrifices of the martyred students and employees would not go in vain. He said that it was due to these very sacrifices that people today were able to live and breathe in an open and peaceful environment.
He emphasised that the martyrs laid down their lives for the cause of education and that their mission would be carried forward with unwavering commitment.He also said that the spirit of courage had long been embedded in the people, and whenever sacrifices were remembered, the BKUC martyrs would be mentioned in golden words.
He reaffirmed that even today their resolve remained strong and morale high, adding that the educational institution would continue to stand firm and the lamp of knowledge would remain lit within its walls.
It may be mentioned that in the Bacha Khan University attack, not only students but also members of the teaching faculty, administrative staff and security personnel had embraced martyrdom.
