Digitisation of police units has helped improve crime detection rate: Odho

Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho said on Friday the crime detection rate has improved due to the process of digitalisation in various police units, technology has also achieved significant successes in police operations in rough areas, and the installation of cameras in cities has increased public awareness of the law.

He said this while chairing a high-level review meeting on the overall law and order situation in the province, including traffic management and effective use of modern technology, at the Central Police Office.

Officials said the meeting was attended by the additional IGs of Karachi, Special Branch and CTD, the DIGs of Headquarters, IT, T&T, Finance, Training, CTD, and Traffic Hyderabad and Karachi, the DG Safe City Authority and other officials.

In the meeting, IGP Odho was given a briefing on the performance of the Sindh police’s various departments and its ongoing digitalisation. He reviewed the performance of various departments of the police and digital reforms and issued necessary instructions.

The police chief said e-challans and monitoring of cameras had also seen a significant reduction in traffic accidents, which had reduced from 90 to less than 50 per day. The meeting was informed about the progress made in using modern technology against crimes, and the important achievements achieved with the help of technology, especially in rough areas and other sensitive places, were covered.

IGP Odho ordered comprehensive and effective security arrangements across the province on the occasion of Shab-e-Miraj. He directed his subordinates to make effective security arrangements around mosques, Imambargahs, shrines and other open places of worship. Moreover, strict screening at entry and exit points, comprehensive checking of vehicles and people should be ensured.

IGP Odho also directed that links with the district administration should be ensured in mosques, Imambargahs, shrines and graveyards and prompt and effective use of timely intelligence reports and threat alerts should also be ensured. The bomb disposal squad should be kept on high alert and the security monitoring should be made more stringent and effective under the National Action Plan.
