Islamabad:Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and German Ambassador Anka Lepel agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation on youth education, skills development and vocational training during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office here Friday.

They underscored a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening long-term people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Germany. Ambassador Lepel announced German government’s plan to increase the number of Pakistani students studying in Germany from 6,000 to 10,000, highlighting its broader interest in deepening academic and professional exchanges and expanding collaboration in Pakistan’s technical and vocational education and training sector, which she declared a priority area for future partnership.

Khan highlighted the PMYP’s previous, current and future projects, saying the programme has a special focus on the National Youth Council and its advisory role in shaping youth-centred policies.

“Engaging young people in national policy-making remains a core government priority and outlined the Council’s ongoing efforts to empower youth by giving them a stronger voice in decision-making processes at both national and local levels,” he said.

The discussion also covered the Green Youth Movement, a PMYP initiative aimed at addressing climate change challenges and promoting environmental awareness and stewardship among young Pakistanis, with both sides recognising the importance of youth-led action in advancing sustainability goals.

Ambassador Lepel commended the PMYP’s chairman for his active and impactful role as a youth advocate, acknowledging his efforts in promoting youth empowerment, productive employment and skills development.

Both reaffirmed their commitment to sustained bilateral cooperation in education, vocational training, skills development and international exposure, reinforcing Pakistan’s broader objective of building strong global partnerships and expanding opportunities for the next generation.
