Islamabad : SHARP-Pakistan marked International Women's Day with a vibrant and empowering event in Islamabad, bringing together civil society leaders, women from the legal and police sectors to honour women's achievements and promote gender equality.
The event celebrated women excelling in various fields and acknowledged their contributions to the welfare and empowerment of women in vulnerable situations. A key segment featured participants sharing their personal journeys, demonstrating how they overcame obstacles to succeed and inspire others. The event also included engaging activities designed to encourage women to learn, share ideas, and realize their potential through meaningful participation.
Project Director Aatif Afzal moderated the event, emphasizing the essential role of women in society and praising their contributions. He facilitated interactive activities that provided women with opportunities to learn, exchange ideas, and showcase their potential through strategic engagement.
Addressing the participants, Chairman SHARP-Pakistan, Syed Liaqat Banori, highlighted the importance of gender equality and women's empowerment, reaffirming SHARP's dedication to advocating for women's rights and celebrating their successes. During the event, he announced the launch of the "SHARP-Women" project, a flagship initiative focused on strengthening gender-responsive justice system, women's leadership, improving professional skills of female lawyers across the country, and increasing their impact within the justice sector.
Pari Gul Tareen, Superintendent of Police Headquarters in Islamabad, joined as the chief guest and stressed the importance of women's empowerment while sharing her inspiring journey from being a daughter of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to leading a department in the capital city. She urged women to stand up for their rights and encouraged all participants to work together to break down barriers hindering women's progress.
The celebration ended with a joint pledge for affirmative action, reflecting SHARP's commitment to recognising women's achievements, building community, and fostering empowerment.
