A 17-year-old domestic worker was allegedly raped in the Gulshan-e-Maymar area, prompting immediate police action and disciplinary measures against law enforcement officials. One suspect has been arrested, while the SHO of the local police station has been suspended and demoted for delays in the registration of the case.
According to police, the girl, a resident of Jahanabad near Gulshan-e-Maymar, was allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects between 1pm and 6pm on Tuesday. The incident was reported to the police between 8:30pm and 9pm.
Upon receiving the complaint, the girl was immediately accompanied by female police officers for a medical examination at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where all medical formalities were completed. Police said the girl has undergone a medical examination and police are awaiting her medical report.
FIR No. 43/26 was registered on the complaint of the girl’s brother Irfan under sections 365, 376, and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Gulshan-e-Maymar police station.
The suspect, Shahi Sardar, son of Jameel, was taken into custody following the registration of the FIR. The suspect has been handed over to investigative authorities for further questioning, while police continue to search for the absconding co-accused. Police stressed that arresting the second suspect and continuing the investigation remain a top priority.
According to Sindh police spokesperson Syed Saad Ali, provincial police chief Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident after complaints of delay and failure in registering the FIR. Following an inquiry, the police station’s SHO was suspended and demoted for negligence.
IGP Odho has also sought a detailed report from the District West police chief and ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged delaying tactics and lapses in providing justice to the girl and her family. He also ordered police to ensure the immediate arrest of all the suspects. According to the District West police, the Gulshan-e-Maymar police have arrested one of the two suspects involved in the alleged sexual assault.
Officials said that upon receiving the complaint, the girl was immediately taken for a medical examination, accompanied by female police officers. Based on the medical report, an FIR was registered and a suspect was taken into custody.
