“When Abraham Lincoln had initiated a campaign for getting rights for blacks in USA and he was fighting to set them free from the shackles of slavery, at the same time Sir Syed Ahmed Khan had started Aligarh Movement in the subcontinent to equip Muslims with modern education. This movement not only convinced Muslims to get scientific education but also created political awareness among the people of foreign countries.”
This was said by Dr Shaheer Khan in a reception held in his honour by Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology. The senior Aligarian Dr Shaheer lives in America where he is associated with various organizations and institutions to help and support students who are ambitious to get higher education in foreign countries.
Elaborating further, he said, “Time has come to catching up with global phenomena and to put education on top priority. We are guiding competent and deserving students, and supporting them to get higher education in the universities of America and Europe without any discrimination. Funds are provided directly to the institutions for education of the students.”
He emphasized developing such organizations or associations to help students to get higher education in foreign countries and offered his support and guidance for this divine cause. Dr Shaheer pointed out that a social media group has been formed and it has more than 38,000 members worldwide. Also many websites have been developed on the internet in relation to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Aligarh Muslim University.
Additionally, he paid tribute to the late Engr. Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan for promoting Aligarh spirit. He has been instrumental to publishing Engr. Zakir Ali Khan’s famous book “Riwayat e Aligarh’ in Hindi language.
