A traffic police officer was recently assaulted by members of the alleged ‘Pathara mafia’ behind the Saddar Parking Plaza after he stopped them from harassing women pedestrians and creating obstructions on the road.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, which showed the traffic police officer being subjected to violence. A one suspect can be seen lifting the officer and throwing him to the ground, while his accomplice also joins in and continues the assault.
According to police and traffic officials, the incident occurred four days ago in the Saddar area. A case was registered at the Saddar police station on the complaint of the state and one suspect, identified as Abdul Qadir, had been taken into custody. However, his accomplice managed to flee the scene and remains at large.
Police said the traffic police officer had asked the vendors to stop harassing women passersby and remove illegal encroachments that were causing traffic congestion. Police stated that roads in and around the Saddar Parking Plaza had been illegally occupied by encroachers, severely disrupting the traffic system.
Officials also alleged that due to the collusion of some institutions, illegal encroachments had continued unchecked, putting the city’s traffic management at serious risk. Police confirmed that legal action was under way and efforts were being made to arrest the absconding suspect.
