LAHORE:Punjab University College of Art & Design, Department of Architecture, has organised a thesis exhibition of students in which 27 graduates presented their artwork.
Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, College Principal Prof Dr Samina Naseem, faculty members, and students attended the event.Talking to the media on the occasion, PU VC Dr Muhammad Ali said that providing students with professional training in line with market trends is the need of the hour. He stated that the exhibition effectively showcased social issues and local architecture through art. He added students presented a variety of projects, including high-rise and cultural buildings as well as small housing units, which are commendable in terms of skill and creativity.
The exhibition featured a wide range of projects, from sustainable housing societies in Multan to cultural centers reflecting the cultural vibrancy of Mardan. Projects from Jhang, Naltar, Okara, Parachinar, Bahawalpur, and other regions were also part of the exhibition.
PU film festival begins at Alhamra
The Department of Film & Broadcasting at Punjab University School of Communication Studies is set to host ‘Dekho Film Festival’ on Wednesday (today), which will continue for Thursday, at Alhamra Arts Council.
Themed Narratives Beyond Borders, the festival will feature film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, theatre performances, and Mushaira. Prof Dr Lubna Zaheer, Chairperson of the Department, who is also Chairperson of the Council of Complaint, PEMRA Lahore, is leading the initiative. Talking to The News, Prof Dr Lubna shared that the core objective of the festival is to encourage young filmmakers and promote their creative skills.
“We have designed the competition around three categories: short films, documentaries, and music videos. Although we initially expected entries mainly from Punjab, we have received submissions from across Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Most entries are from Punjab, but not just from Punjab University; they have come from various public and private universities, as well as independent filmmakers,” she said. The event is being organised in collaboration with Alhamra Arts Council.
