PESHAWAR: KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Suriya Bibi has said the provincial government is giving special priority to the development of Chitral and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will soon visit the district to inaugurate several new development projects.
She was addressing a literary and cultural ceremony organised by the Anjuman-e-Taraqqi Khwar, Peshawar chapter, at the Imam Khomeini Hall of Khana-e-Farhang, Peshawar. Suriya Bibi attended the event as the chief guest, while the session was presided over by senior lawyer and PMLN leader Abdul Wali Khan Abid Advocate.
Suriya Bibi said Chitral had a rich cultural heritage and immense potential in the tourism sector. She added that the recent organisation of winter games in the region and the distribution of record prize money among polo players were important steps towards promoting culture and boosting tourism.
The deputy speaker said the establishment of a press club in Upper Chitral was the result of her personal efforts, adding that an FM radio station would also be set up in Booni, Chitral, to promote local culture and information dissemination. She also announced a donation of Rs500,000 for the Anjuman-e-Taraqqi Khwar.
Earlier, the event began with a collective prayer for the eternal peace of renowned Chitrali literary figure Iqbaluddin Sehar. The ceremony also featured the book launch of “Evergreen Folk Songs of Chitral with Urdu and English Translation,” authored by noted researcher, poet and radio host Inayat Jalil Anbar.
