SUKKUR: Heirs of Nadir Khan Jamali, allegedly killed in encounter with Dadu police, have rejected instigation by the police and demanded high-level judicial probe.

The heirs have said they will expand their protest to other parts of the province. After Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the incident, the IGP constituted an inquiry committee headed by Hyderabad SP Adil Chandio. Hyderabad DSP Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi, a member of the inquiry team, reached Dadu a day ago. According to sources of the district police, SHO A-Section Qurban Qambarari, SHO B-Section Khalil Masan, 15 in-charge Shahid Panwar and CIA SHO Dadu Benazir Jamali have recorded their statements, adding the statements of five arrested relatives of the deceased have also been taken. The heirs of Nadir Jamali have refused to record their statement, the sources said, adding that the report of the case will soon be submitted to the Sindh home minister.

Meanwhile, Jamali’s heirs - Khadim Jamali, Babar Jamali, Mubeen Ahmed Jamali and others - told reporters they would not accept police inquiry under any circumstances and demanded a high-level judicial investigation, saying, “It is unacceptable that police committed the killing and then conducted the investigation.”

They further said that their brother was portrayed as a terrorist and killed in a fake encounter, adding that their brother Nadir Jamali was a respectable citizen and had good relations with renowned politicians and landlords in all four provinces. It may be noted that Dadu, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Karachi Bars have also condemned the alleged killing and also demanded a high-level investigation.
