Work was underway to connect a newly installed pipeline at Old Pipri to Karachi’s existing water supply network under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), officials said on Saturday.

According to a KW&SC spokesperson, the project aimed to strengthen and modernise the city’s ageing water transmission system. The integration process includes linking the new pipeline to the existing network and installing modern control valves to improve efficiency and reliability.

The work was expected to be tentatively completed by Tuesday, January 13, with the overall operation scheduled to last 96 hours. During this period, the Old Pipri Pumping Station had been shut down, temporarily suspending water supply from the facility. However, officials said the New Pipri Pumping Station continued to operate normally, ensuring partial continuity of supply.

As a result of the shutdown, water supply had been affected in several areas, including parts of Malir Town, Shah Faisal Town, Model Zone Town, SPL, and the PIA residential area. The Landhi and Sherpao hydrants had also been closed.
