‘Federal govt providing full support for bringing modern technology to health and education sectors’

The inaugural pre-conference workshop of the International Medical Education Conference (IMECon 2026) was held with great enthusiasm at Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry (LCMD). Federal Minister for Education & Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui attended the event as the chief guest.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), including its President Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Health Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, distinguished senators, medical experts, college administration, faculty members, and students.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Siddiqui stated that the government is providing comprehensive support for the implementation of modern technology in the health and education sectors, and for its expanding opportunities in public interest.

He praised the contribution of Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry, the leadership of Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti, and the institution’s academic achievements, stating: “Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti has not only expanded opportunities in medical education but has also transformed LCMD into a distinguished, comprehensive, and high-quality institution. Under his leadership, LCMD has ensured transparency and hands-on medical training. This institution is a source of pride for the country, serving both students and society by providing quality education and advanced medical services.”

The federal minister further emphasized that the government’s vision is to equip students with modern skills and technology so they may actively contribute to serving society.

In his address, Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti stated that medical educational institutions are established not for the short-term success but for long-term national as well society impact.

He reaffirmed that the LCMD’s vision is based on national needs, quality education, transparency, and a strong commitment to the community services. He added that the LCMD provides students not only academic knowledge but also ethical and professional training, encouraging strong engagement with the roots of the society.

Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted that the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has introduced significant reforms to improve the quality of medical education, faculty development, and examination systems. He stated that the CPSP’s guidance has enabled institutions like the LCMD to offer accredited training programmes, transparent examination systems, and education aligned with international standards.

Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri emphasized that ensuring equality, transparent access, and quality education in the health and education sectors for future generations is a collective responsibility. She stated that the true purpose of medical education is public service and that it must be accessible to all.

Senator Sarmad Ali spoke on the importance of unified educational policy, administrative reforms, and institutional governance, stressing that quality and transparency at every level are essential for Pakistan’s medical education system to meet global standards.

Vice Chairman LCMD and DSH Dr Ali Farhan Razi highlighted the LCMD’s 26 years’ journey of academic achievements, collaboration and expansions. He stated that the CPSP’s mentorship and the dedication of the LCMD administration have established the institution as a reputable center for academic excellence, ethical values, and professional training.

Prof Dr Naveed Rashid Qureshi, principal of College of Dentistry, stated that over the past more than two decades, the LCMD has produced a large number of competent professionals through its MBBS and BDS programmes.

He further highlighted the FCPS and MCPS residency programmes, high-volume clinical training, and the CHPE programme, which has enhanced teaching skills among medical educators.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Prof Dr Rashid Naseem Khan, principal of the College of Medicine, expressed gratitude to all distinguished guests, honorable Senators, CPSP leadership, and the LCMD management, acknowledging their guidance and educational vision as key contributors to LCMD’s continued success. He emphasized that the pre-conference workshop not only highlighted the standards of medical education in Pakistan but also strengthened the country’s academic presence at the international level.

All participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting quality, transparency, and professional medical education for future generations.
