Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday said that more than 13,000 development projects had been launched across the province so far, of which 9,193 had been completed in various sectors.

Memon said work was currently under way on projects in health, education, agriculture, roads, irrigation and social development, with Rs367 billion in foreign funding and Rs76 billion under the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

In a statement, he said the Sindh government’s development vision was focused not only on initiating projects but also on ensuring their timely completion and strict compliance with quality standards.

The departments had been directed to launch new projects only after the completion of existing ones, he said.

Memon said the swift completion of development projects in Karachi, along with strict quality control, was a core part of the government’s development strategy.

He said the objective of every development initiative in the city was to improve the quality of life of citizens and strengthen Karachi’s infrastructure.

He added that under the Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project (KNIP), upgradation works related to roads, parks, drainage, sewerage and street lighting had been completed, which had led to a visible improvement in the city’s urban environment.

On the directives of the chief minister, urban master plans were being strictly implemented to prevent unplanned development, the information minister said.

He remarked that under the Sindh Municipal Services Delivery Programme, improvements had also been made in water supply, solid waste and wastewater management in Jacobabad and other cities.
