JMDC awards degrees to 413 graduates at 11th convocation

Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) and Jinnah College of Physical Therapy (JCPT) on Saturday conferred degrees on 413 graduates from medicine, dentistry and physical therapy at their 11th convocation, with speakers urging the new doctors to uphold ethics, professionalism and lifelong learning as they enter clinical practice.

The convocation was formally declared open by the vice chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, who later conferred degrees on MBBS, BDS and DPT graduates from the 2024 and 2025 batches.

The chief guest, Prof Dr Mohammad Saeed Quraishy, in his keynote address, reminded graduates that clinical competence must be matched with integrity, empathy and continued education.

According to the college administration, a total of 413 students were admitted to their degrees. Medals were awarded to 36 high achievers for subject distinctions and overall academic performance.

Saniya Jawed and Asma Riaz from MBBS, Ayesha Abdul Rehman and Aimen Majeed from BDS, and Hira Asif and Zulekha Shahzad from the DPT programme were declared best graduates of their respective disciplines.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Dr Farhan Umer, an MBBS graduate of the 2024 batch, who passed away during his house job. His contribution and academic journey were acknowledged with special recognition, drawing an emotional response from the audience.

Presenting the annual institutional report, Principal JMDC Prof Dr Atif Mahmood outlined progress in academics, quality assurance and faculty development, saying the college remained focused on producing competent and ethical healthcare professionals aligned with national needs. Separate reports were presented by Prof Junaid Lakhani, principal of Dental College, and Dr Rafia Rafiq, principal of JCPT, highlighting growth across medical, dental and physical therapy education.

Chairman S M Sohail Trust Dr Syed Tariq Sohail and Trustee Dr Syed Adnan Tariq Sohail were also present at the ceremony, along with senior faculty members, parents and invited guests. Graduate and alumni speeches from MBBS, BDS and DPT programmes reflected student experiences, gratitude towards teachers and aspirations to serve patients with responsibility and compassion.

JMDC officials said the 11th convocation marked another milestone in the institution’s journey, reaffirming its role in contributing trained human resources to Pakistan’s healthcare system.
