On the directive of Karachi police chief Additional IG Azad Khan, the Karachi Range DIGs were recently instructed to form a task force to combat crime. In this regard, the first meeting of the task force was held under the chairmanship of DIG East Range Dr Farrukh Ali on Thursday.
Officials said the meeting aimed to further improve the law and order situation in industrial areas and to ensure complete protection for factory owners. The meeting was attended by the SSPs of Malir, East and Korangi districts, senior police officers, officials from the Investigation and CIA wings, DSP Korangi and the SHO of Korangi Industrial Area.
Office-bearers of the Korangi Industrial Area Association (KATI), including its president Muhammad Akram Rajput and other senior officials, also attended the meeting. Representatives of the association apprised the DIG East of the security issues being faced in Korangi and Malir areas. They highlighted serious concerns such as extortion, harassment of factory owners and blackmailing to meet illegal demands.
Dr Farrukh Ali directed that police patrols in industrial areas be made more effective, close monitoring of suspicious elements be ensured and complaints of factory owners be addressed promptly. He made it clear that strict legal action would be taken against extortionists, blackmailers and other criminal elements without any discrimination.
He further said that the task force would take practical steps on the ground, intelligence-based operations would be intensified and the strictest legal action would be taken against those involved in such crimes. He emphasised that no concessions would be given to lawbreakers and that constant coordination with industrialists would be maintained to deal with any untoward incident in a timely manner.
Ali assured the association officials that police would remain in contact with them round the clock and that their security issues would be resolved on a priority basis. DSP Korangi Khushnood Javed was appointed as the focal person of the committee.
