On the directives of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, a crackdown against roadside encroachments continued across all districts of the city on Tuesday.
Officials said that the deputy commissioners had submitted reports on operations against roadside encroachments, indicating that several shops had been sealed, illegal structures removed, goods seized, and nine people arrested.
Naqvi stated that owners of sealed shops must submit SOP-compliant affidavits assuring that they would not repeat the violations. In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Assistant Commissioner Salim Gudani sealed six roadside hotels, including Continental Bakery, Al-Arab Broast, MJ Restaurant, Café Mest 5, J-Café and Chae Manzil. In Gulistan-e-Johar, 21 furniture-market shops, including Kashan Furniture and Al-Jannat Furniture, were sealed for violating roadside regulations.
Assistant Commissioner Airport Abdul Hafiz Soomro sealed 12 shops in Sayed Village, Malir. In Korangi, the Assistant Commissioner Model Colony, along with police and town administration teams, cleared around 200 stalls and 50 soft and hard encroachments in Liaquat Market and its surrounding areas. Eight shops were sealed, and more than one kilometre of the market area was cleared.
In Keamari district, Deputy Commissioner Raja Tariq Chandio, with the assistance of police and municipal officials, sealed five hotels that were illegally occupying footpaths, green belts and public spaces.
According to Deputy Commissioner Korangi Masood Bhutto, Assistant Commissioner Shah Faisal visited Ibrahim Brother School, where several teachers were found absent and student attendance was below 20 per cent. A report in this regard had been submitted to the commissioner.
Moreover, the Assistant Commissioner General Karachi and Supervisory Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bhangwar sealed nine shops in Saddar, arrested four people for establishing encroachments and four others for illegal parking, and registered FIRs against five individuals. Encroachments were removed from Liaquat Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road and Mansfield Street.
A report from the Deputy Commissioner Korangi stated that Assistant Commissioner Landhi carried out a large-scale operation in Korangi No 6, clearing a cycle market and a carpet market, confiscating hardware, chairs, tables and other items, and sealing 32 shops.
