Sindh Local Government, Housing and Town Planning Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Saturday visited various areas of Karachi along with Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) managing director (MD), Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) MD, project director of mega projects and officers of the Karachi Development Authority.
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr Fawad was also present on the occasion.
The LG minister expressed anger at the lack of cleanliness in some areas and reprimanded officers of the KWSC and SSWMB for their poor performance. Issuing emergency instructions for drainage and cleaning work, he directed that road restoration work be carried out immediately and manhole covers installed without delay.
He warned that negligence and carelessness of any kind would no longer be tolerated.
He said that for the restoration of Karachi, everyone must play their role beyond political and party affiliations. “I invite everyone to come forward and work together for the betterment of Karachi,” he added.
He said that the tragic deaths of innocent children falling into open manholes were extremely heartbreaking, and all relevant departments and institutions were responsible for this.
