Acting on the directives of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the Sindh government has, for the first time, introduced a uniform examination standard for all examination boards across the province.

Under the reform, a Uniform Examination Syllabus (UES) for IX and X classes has been formally approved. Examinations in five core subjects -- English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology -- will now be conducted under a single, standardized framework.

According to an official notification issued by the Sindh School Education Department, the government has also approved the Table of Specifications (ToS) for these subjects. Examination papers will no longer be based directly on textbooks but will instead be set strictly in line with the approved UES.

Previously, board examinations were conducted on the basis of textbooks. With the introduction of the UES, a clearly defined and uniform examination syllabus has now been established, requiring all education boards to prepare question papers within the same assessment framework.

The UES was approved following a detailed review by the DCAR, after which the department issued a formal No Objection Certificate. Classes XI and XII will be included in the uniform examination system at a later stage, in line with DCAR recommendations.

Terming the move a historic milestone in Sindh’s education sector, Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah said the reform aims to shift the examination system away from rote learning towards assessments based on conceptual understanding, application and critical thinking. He noted that the introduction of modern assessment techniques would help evaluate students’ actual learning abilities and yield positive outcomes.

The minister added that alongside examination reforms, work is also underway on strengthening Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), while teacher training programmes are being expanded to ensure effective implementation. He emphasised that the uniform examination system would promote transparency, consistency and overall improvement in the quality of education across Sindh.
