74 new motorcycles gutted as carrier truck catches fire

As many as 74 brand-new motorcycles worth millions of rupees were destroyed when a carrier truck caught fire in Gadap Town on Monday, police said.

The incident occurred near Old Sajjad Hotel within the jurisdiction of Gadap City police station. The truck, which was transporting motorcycles, suddenly caught fire, resulting in the destruction of dozens of motorbikes.

Videos of the incident also surfaced showing the vehicle engulfed in flames. Police said 71 GD-110S motorcycles and three GR-150 motorcycles were gutted in the blaze. Gadap City SHO Sarfraz Jatoi said the fire broke out at around 1:20pm on Monday while the carrier truck was on its way from Karachi to Multan. The company’s staff and the driver, with the help of firefighters, managed to extinguish the blaze.

During the firefighting operation, the truck driver sustained minor injuries. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident. The SHO added that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit. The relevant company has registered a report at the Gadap City police station.
