LAHORE: A fresh audit has been ordered into alleged corruption in registry branch of Nishtar Town, Lahore.
Talking to The News, the Member Audit, Inspection and Monitoring, AmjadShoaib Khan Tareen, said he has issued formal orders in this regard. He has directed the audit related to allegations of corruption in Nishtar Town be conducted afresh.
According to the orders issued on the instructions of the Member AIM, Board of Revenue Punjab, audit will be carried out into alleged evasion of stamp duty, capital value tax, registration fees, and local commission fees. Alleged corruption related to gain tax and withholding tax will also be investigated.
Earlier, an audit of the registry branch in Nishtar Town, Lahore, had been conducted by the Member Taxes. However, the audit did not include an investigation into the evasion of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) taxes, which will now be examined.
During the inquiry, all registries approved between 2023 and January 2025 will be re-examined.
It has been stated that Sub-Registrar Rai Ansar did not verify the deposited taxes with banks at the time of approving the registries. It was further reported that residential buildings were registered as agricultural land, thousands of registries were approved without building plans, and fake stamp papers were also used.
The names mentioned in connection with the matter include Sub-Registrar Rai Ansar, registry clerks Khurshid, Faisal Yaseen, Osama Iftikhar, Muhammad Ahsan, and record keeper Yousaf.
Regarding the identification of alleged corruption worth billions of rupees in Nishtar Town, an application was submitted to Punjab CM on May 30, 2024. Subsequently, on June 3, 2024, the Chief Minister directed the Member Taxes Punjab to conduct an inquiry.
