LAHORE : Khalid Mehmood Khokhar, President of Kissan Ittehad, accused the government of deceiving farmers and neglecting their grievances, announcing a protest demonstration starting January 5 until their demands are addressed.

Speaking to the media, Khokhar highlighted the severe challenges faced by farmers, saying that soaring production costs and falling crop prices have left them struggling. He noted that a sack of wheat that once sold for Rs8,000-10,000 now fetches only Rs1,500. He described the agricultural situation as dire, with farmers investing heavily in seeds, fertilizers, and labor yet facing financial hardship. Khokhar criticized the so-called Kisan card, calling it effectively a loan rather than a meaningful solution. Farmers of wheat, cabbage, kinnow, and sugarcane are among those most affected, he added. He also questioned government priorities, pointing out that while farmers’ assets remain in the country, officials often keep their wealth abroad. The upcoming protest aims to draw attention to these issues and urge the government to address farmers’ demands.
