LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is weighing the introduction of a direct signing option alongside its traditional player draft for the upcoming 2026 edition (PSL-11).

Under the proposed system, a separate player pool will be created specifically for direct signings, with each franchise permitted to sign up to two players directly from this pool.

Unlike the draft, there will be no salary cap on direct signings, giving teams full freedom to secure marquee players of their choice. However, the draft system will continue as usual, with direct signings serving as an additional recruitment mechanism rather than a replacement.

The aim is to provide franchises with flexibility to attract high-profile talent while maintaining cost control and competitive balance through the draft format.

The move comes after some franchises had pushed for the PSL to adopt an IPL-style auction, arguing that it would generate more excitement and allow teams greater freedom to spend money on top international stars.
