Speedy repatriation of Afghan nationals, Chinese security ordered

LAHORE:Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office (CPO) to review enforcement of new traffic laws, challaning of violators, issuance of road certificates, and progress regarding the arrest of proclaimed offenders (POs) of proscribed organisations.

The meeting also covered implementation of the CM’s directives, security of Chinese experts and repatriation of illegally residing Afghan nationals. The IGP said amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance have improved public compliance, reducing violations such as helmet non-usage, one-way violations, overloading, and travelling on bus roofs, resulting in fewer accidents and casualties. He directed strict action against vehicles without standard number plates and emphasised increasing driving licence issuance. Districts including Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sialkot have shown improved performance in traffic management, challaning, and awareness campaigns.

He also instructed timely completion of manhole registration and verification, pending challans, and coordination with prosecutors. He stressed accelerating the repatriation of Afghan nationals and ensuring foolproof security for Chinese experts and residents working on CPEC and other development projects.Meanwhile, a ceremony was held at the Central Police Office to distribute foreign scholarships worth Rs11.5 million to children of eight police martyrs studying abroad.
