PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Shafi Ullah Jan, on Monday paid tribute to late journalist Seelab Mehsud and announced the establishment of a “Seelab Mehsud Chair” at Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, and a public library in his native area, Ladha (Waziristan), in recognition of his journalistic services.
He made the announcements while addressing a memorial ceremony organized by the Mehsud Press Club in memory of Seelab Mehsud at the Museum Hall of the University of Peshawar.Members of the Provincial Assembly Asif Masood and Tariq Saeed, Vice Chancellor of Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan, tribal elders, political leaders, journalists, and colleagues of the late journalist attended the event.
The special assistant said that the services of late Seelab Mehsud were a guiding light for society, and his contributions to journalism in the tribal region would always be remembered.He noted that Seelab Mehsud practiced journalism in extremely difficult and challenging times, when black laws like the FCR were enforced and the region was gripped by terrorism.
His struggle against the FCR and for human rights, he added, would always be remembered, and his services serve as a role model for the journalistic community.Journalists Shamim Shahid, Yasin Qureshi, Shams Momand, Fakhar Kakakhel, and others paid glowing tributes to the journalistic, literary, and social services of late Seelab Mehsud and shared their memories of him.
A documentary highlighting the life of Seelab Mehsud was screened at the ceremony as well.Earlier, Shafi Ullah Jan was presented with a traditional turban.Office-bearers of Miranshah Press Club, North Waziristan, also took oath at the event.
