As students in Pakistan, we find ourselves struggling to put a finger on the one career that will set us for life. The emphasis on a particular degree being the lifeboat out of a debt-filled economy promotes a pipe dream. It reinforces the idea that university is merely a means to get a job, instead of a privilege and a life experience. The fact is that no particular field is inherently superior to another and nothing guarantees a secure job anymore.
Subjects should not be categorised based on how much it presumably benefits a nation economically. There will always be opportunities arising as long as the world continues. The more practical approach would be to encourage students to make decisions based on passion and capabilities.
