Encroachment approach

The objective of the ongoing anti-encroachment drives being carried out across various cities of Sindh is to reclaim public spaces. However, the execution reflects a lack of thoughtful planning and a deeply worrying element of partiality. It is evident that influential individuals and politically connected groups remain untouched, even when their encroached properties visibly violate public rights of way. On the other hand, small vendors, labourers, fruit/vegetable cart owners and low-income individuals face immediate and ruthless demolition of their means of livelihood. This selective action not only exposes inequality but also erodes public trust in government institutions.

Furthermore, there appears to be no coordination among relevant departments. After demolition, debris is left scattered for weeks, utilities remain disrupted and there is no post-operation plan to beautify the city or prevent future encroachments. Instead of relief, citizens continue to suffer from blocked roads, broken footpaths and disorganized restoration work. A transparent, well-planned and uniformly enforced policy is urgently required to ensure justice, sustainability and genuine urban improvement.
