Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon met a high-level delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at his office on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on financial support for ongoing and future transport-related projects. Secretary Transport Asad Zamin and CEO TransKarachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro also attended the discussion. The delegation assured the minister of the ADB’s continued support for current transport initiatives as well as for upcoming mobility projects in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Memon said the Sindh government was set to operate biogas-powered buses for the first time in Pakistan, and the procurement process for Karachi had formally begun. He added that the government’s priority was to ensure these biogas buses were modern and provide services of an international standard. Each bus would also be equipped with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
He further stated that work on the biogas plant to support environmentally friendly buses in Karachi would begin soon. Such initiatives, he said, would play a key role in promoting eco-friendly transport, while biogas and electric vehicles would help reduce environmental pollution.
