LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted time for the incorporation of amendments into petitions challenging the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
Six petitions against the amendment were heard by the LHC on Friday. A three-member full bench, headed by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, presided over the hearing.
During proceedings, the bench head directed counsel Azhar Siddique to read Article 174 of the Constitution. The court observed that, under this article, it is mandatory to name the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a respondent; otherwise, the petition would be considered incomplete.
Counsel Siddique acknowledged the oversight, stating they had just handwritten the addition to include it as a respondent.
The court clarified that it must also function in accordance with the Constitution when matters of constitutional challenge are concerned, and permission cannot be granted for handwritten alterations.
Granting time for a proper amendment to the petition, the court adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.
