CHARSADDA: Journalists in Charsadda have expressed grave concern over threats issued to them by unidentified militants and the lack of prompt action by law-enforcement agencies to ensure their safety.
Speaking at a meeting of the Charsadda Press Club, its president Subz Ali Khan Tareen condemned the silence of the authorities and the inadequate measures to protect journalists. The discussions focused on security concerns for the press club and specific threats received by senior journalists Syed Shah Raza Shah and Rafiqatullah Rajarwal, the district coordinator of Freedom Network. Subz Ali Khan Tareen warned that militants pose a serious danger to these journalists and the press club itself. He added that a meeting was held with DPO Charsadda Muhammad Waqas, who reportedly declined to comment on the issue.
Tareen said that law enforcement agencies, including the Charsadda police, have left the press club vulnerable during this critical time. He warned that any harm to journalists would be the full responsibility of the police and other relevant authorities.
The press club president also appealed to all political parties, business organizations, and trade unions to support journalists and join the protest to ensure their protection.
