LAHORE: IGP Dr Usman Anwar and DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir while addressing a press conference at the Central Police Office Lahore have said that the new amended traffic ordinance has been fully enforced across the province.
The IGP said over 332,000 challan tickets have been issued throughout Punjab in just five days. He added that despite awareness efforts, 56,899 vehicles and motorcycles have been impounded for repeated violations, while cases are also being registered for serious traffic offences.
DIG Traffic said fines and FIRs are registered only in case of violations. No cases will be registered against students or underage drivers; instead, cases will be registered against vehicle owners.
He said that many reports circulating on social media are baseless, which is why this press conference was held to inform the public about the actual facts. The DIG said the objective of the government of Punjab and the Traffic police is not to collect revenue but to provide safe roads and a better travel environment to citizens.

Reviewing monthly performance, the Secretary ESD said Rescue 1122 responded to 211,186 emergencies and rescued 214,912 victims across Punjab during the month. He expressed concern over 45,287 road crashes that left 22,452 people seriously injured and 489 dead on the spot.
The meeting, attended by senior officials and district emergency officers via video link, reviewed district-wise performance, major incidents and operational challenges.
Rescue data showed 141,589 medical emergencies, 45,287 road crashes, 5,655 fall injuries, 5,617 maternity cases, 2,945 crime emergencies, 2,087 occupational injuries, 2,047 fire incidents, 1,018 animal rescues, 505 electric shocks, 364 burn cases, 46 drownings, 34 structural collapses and 3,992 miscellaneous operations. Lahore reported the highest number of road crashes (8,093) with 59 deaths, followed by Faisalabad (2,913), Multan (2,772), Gujranwala (2,256), Sheikhupura (1,593) and Rawalpindi (1,516). Lahore also topped fire incidents with 381 cases.
694 arrested in action against drug dealers
Acting on the chief minister’s directive to make the province drug-free, Punjab Police have intensified their province-wide crackdown, arresting 694 suspects and registering 688 cases in the past 72 hours.
According to the police spokesperson, the operation led to the seizure of 907kg charas, 445kg ice, 79kg heroin and 11kg opium. Two proclaimed offenders involved in drug peddling were also arrested.
IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar ordered further tightening of operations against major dealers and smugglers, directing that all links in the supply chain be dismantled. He also instructed police to step up action around educational institutions and hostels, and to move firmly against online drug transactions to protect the youth from narcotics.
