LAHORE:Smog increased in the provincial metropolis as average AQI reached 229 here on Tuesday.Data collected from IQAir revealed that the present AQI was very unhealthy and the PM2.5 concentration was 30.8 times the World Health Organisation annual PM2.5 guideline value.
The most polluted city areas included different phases of DHA, Civil Secretariat, Bedian Road, Allama Iqbal Town, different areas of Cantonment, Barki Road, Johar Town and Askari 10. Met officials said most parts of the country were likely to remain under the influence of continental air while a shallow westerly wave was also present over extreme northern parts of the country.
They predicted that cold and dry weather was expected over most parts of the country while very cold in hilly areas during morning/night. Smog was expected in the plain areas of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa while light to moderate fog was expected at isolated places during morning and night hours. Frost was likely to occur at isolated places in Islamabad, Pothohar region, Kashmir and plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours.Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Skardu where mercury dipped down to -08°C while in Lahore it was 11°C.
