ISLAMABAD: In a surprise move, Finland has announced plans to close down its embassies in Islamabad, Kabul and Yangon next year. However, it didn’t give specific timelines for shutdowns.
“The embassies in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Myanmar will be closed for operational and strategic reasons, which are linked to changes in the countries’ political situation and their limited commercial and economic relations with Finland,” the Finnish foreign ministry said in a news release. It said decisions on closures were made by a decree of the president of the republic.
There is no official word from the Pakistani government on the development.
