PESHAWAR: Expressing concern over unemployment of engineers, Pakistan Engineers Forum, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in its executive body meeting on Sunday worked out a comprehensive strategy to address critical issues faced by the engineering community and to strengthen its organizational structure in the province.

The meeting was chaired by provincial president of the forum, Qazi Muhammad Naeem and attended by general secretary Dr Khan Shahzada and other members of the executive body.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the unemployment of engineers in the country. The participants stressed the government to fill all vacant engineering positions in all the departments at the earliest. They also called upon the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to proactively seek and facilitate job opportunities for Pakistani engineers in foreign markets.

“The talent and potential of our engineers are being underutilized, which is a significant setback for national development,” Qazi Naeem said.

He urged the government to take urgent action to utilise the expertise of engineers and fill their vacant posts in all the provincial departments. PEC should also expand its role and focus attention on creating international placements for Pakistani engineers, he added.

About the provincial engineering forum, he said it was an organisation of Pakistani professional engineers dedicated to the advancement of the engineering profession, safeguarding the interests of engineers, and contributing to the infrastructural and technological development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular and Pakistan in general.

The executive body decided that the forum would formally establish and strengthen four regional units in Central, Hazara, Northern, and Southern Regions. The initiative aims to improve engagement and visibility, particularly among young engineers. Each regional president will nominate district heads to ensure an active PEF presence province-wide.

The meeting also accorded approval to formation of a dedicated media team, comprising Muhammad Sohaib and Saad Zaigham Hashmi. This team will manage all media and social media activities under the supervision of the provincial cabinet to improve public and member outreach.

The body also decided to organize quarterly seminars and workshops in collaboration with engineering universities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These events are designed to promote professional development, awareness, and mentorship for the next generation of engineers. Saad Zaigham Hashmi and Muhammad Sohaib will coordinate these efforts.

A resolution was passed by the meeting to actively involve both young engineers and former members of the forum, leveraging their experience and energy to ensure organizational continuity and robust knowledge sharing.
