MARDAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday held the incumbent rulers, who were allegedly imposed on the people through a fake mandate, responsible for the current political and economic mess.
Addressing a public gathering in Katlang in Mardan, he said that a fake mandate had been engineered for the 27th Constitutional Amendment and that genuine public representation had been weakened.
Fazl said the country’s economy was now on the brink of collapse, while India and Bangladesh have moved ahead of Pakistan. He added that the party had launched movements against previous governments and would continue raising its voice against the policies of present rulers as well.
The JUIF chief said that people had been bought and the nation today felt unsafe. He said that although he had reservations about Imran Khan, the current rulers had also disappointed the public.
Commenting on Afghanistan policy, he alleged that a friendly neighbour had been turned into an enemy and that blaming Afghanistan for terrorism was worsening the situation. He questioned why diplomats had failed and who would now be responsible for stabilising the Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
Fazl said that the progress made during his own visit to Afghanistan had been undone by the incumbent government.
He claimed that the present leadership was not capable of resolving the Afghan issue.
He reiterated that the JUIF opposed a Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict, stressing that extending a hand of friendship rather than hostility was in the best interest of both countries.
