PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Saturday issued a written order restraining the arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in any case while hearing a petition seeking details of cases registered against him.
A division bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Naeem Anwar heard the chief minister’s petition.
During the proceedings, the chief minister’s counsel Bashir Khan Wazir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shah Faisal Utmankhel, Deputy Attorney General Muhammad Atif Nazir and National Accountability Bureau’s representative Sartaj Khan appeared before the court.
According to the brief order issued by the PHC, Islamabad Police presented details of the cases registered against the chief minister, confirming that several cases had been filed against him at different police stations in Islamabad.
The court was informed that the Cybercrime Wing in Islamabad has registered two cases against the chief minister. However, the court noted that no reports had been submitted by NAB, Anti-Corruption Establishment or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police regarding cases under their respective jurisdictions.
The order said that the AG was summoned and asked whether the court could intervene in matters concerning institutions that fall under the administrative control of the chief minister, but he failed to provide a satisfactory reply.
The order directed the DAG to ensure submission of reports from all relevant departments. The court meanwhile barred the arrest of the chief minister in any registered case until December 9.
