Former umpire Khizar Hayat dies

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday condoled the death Pakistan’s former World Cup and Test umpire Khizar Hayat who breathed his last here in Lahore.

He played for more than ten years for Railways before taking up umpiring. He officiated in 34 Test matches and 57 One Day Internationals and also World Cup during his distinguished career at the elite level.

Khizar Hayat also served the PCB as General Manager - Umpire and Match Referee, contributing significantly to the development and strengthening of officiating standards in Pakistan. He served the game with integrity, composure and professionalism, earning respect from players, officials and colleagues around the world, a PCB statement said. Born on January 5, 1939 in Lahore Khizar Hayat has long association with Pakistan Railways both as cricketer and senior technical management.
