ISLAMABAD: Three candidates have been shortlisted for the appointment of regular chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

According to sources, the panel has been sent to the prime minister for approval. After the approval of the prime minister, the federal cabinet will approve the appointment of new chairman. According to sources, the selection board, headed by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, has shortlisted a panel of three candidates after interviewing 76 candidates. The panel includes former home and religious affairs secretary Dr Aftab Akbar Durrani, Brig (R) Syed Mujtaba Turki and Qamar-uz-Zaman.

According to sources, there is a strong possibility of the appointment of Qamar-uz-Zaman. He holds the post of Deputy Director General in a federal government agency. He is a serving officer and his tenure will end on March 2, 2026 on attaining the age of 60 years.

According to sources, the formal notification of the appointment of new chairman will be issued only after the approval of federal cabinet. The position has been lying vacant since 2023. Since then, the post is being held with an additional charge. At present, Additional Secretary Dr Sajid Mahmood Chohan holds the charge of the post of Chairman of Waqf Board.
