Information secretary to be appointed this week

ISLAMABAD: Appointment of new Secretary Information and Broadcasting will be decided this week. The key post of Federal Secretary Information and Broadcasting is vacant and no officer has been appointed to the post so far.

According to sources, the Information Ministry has recommended four names to the prime minister for the post of Information and Broadcasting Secretary. The names of the officers including Prime Minister’s Personal Secretary Arshad Munir, Information and Broadcasting Ministry Additional Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil, Information Service Academy Executive Director Umrana Wazir and Digital Communication Department Executive Director Saeed Ahmed Sheikh were forwarded to the PM.

All the four are Grade 21 officers of the Information Group. The domicile of Arshad Munir and Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil of the Information Group is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Imrana Wazir’s domicile is from erstwhile Fata and Saeed Ahmed Sheikh’s domicile is from Punjab. The prime minister will decide on the appointment of the new Information and Broadcasting Secretary. After the approval of the prime minister, the notification of the new Secretary Information and Broadcasting will be issued. The post of Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting has been vacant since October 23, 2025 after the retirement of Ambreen Jan.
